Celebrating King James Bible

Some others may have read the August Ensign, and noted the pages dedicated to celebrating 400 years of King James Bible. I was sort of inspired to put my 2 cents about the Bible in ordered bits as if someone else were interested in my thoughts. Misconceptions, Testimony etc.

I’ve been thinking–and of course reading–about the so-called shaken faith thing. What I’m about to say, is given without documentation, just some personal observation. Look forward to my presentation of some of the “hidden” Mormon history (usually “hidden” in the pages of the Internet-readable Ensign!) . I have a specific point to be made of that. Are Science & Religion At War?

For some reason this is the age of fundamentalism. There are groups in Christian, Muslim and Jewish (and some other) circles, who interpret their scriptures very literally. What they say in essence, is that the Bible/Qur’an/Younameit is literally true word for word. That it’s been received from God just as it is today. My irreverent question would be, “which version of them?” and I beg your pardon, and no disrespect meant for your Scripture. I believe in the Bible. Read more…

Just What Is Moral Courage Part 2

I don’t know how the first one could have been so poorly edited. My editor must have been napping! ;)

But what has happened, as it often does, is that this subject of moral courage has been much on my mind, and I’ve had several opportunities to see and practise it in practice (according to dictionary, the verb takes the “s” and the noun the “c” [NERD POINTS!]).  And as it often does, it seems my views have widened to look at it more from the basic human needs point-of-view. The need for nourishment and shelter are closely followed by the need of dignity, for example. Read more…
