About ‘All the war stories in the Book of Mormon’

I have lately been thinking about how often I hear even people, who basically believe that the BofM is from God, say that they are having a difficult time understanding how all the warfare in the book could be useful in a spiritual sense. It’s sometimes funny how something I’ve sometimes said myself, too, I suddenly realize I’ve at some point understood at least something of it, when I hear it from someone else.

The story of the man we usually call “Captain Moroni” gave me the beginning of the understanding. One day I was thinking of Moroni, and I was thinking how Moroni is such a good example to us, despite being a warrio Read more…

What does Christmas mean to me?

First, a disclaimer; while I don’t claim to represent the Church or the official standpoint of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (what I usually incorrectly call “LDS Church”), I consider myself a faithful Latter-day Saint, and I am a member in good standing–still my blog posts are my sole responsibility, and nobody else is to be blamed for my mistakes. For the official Church material, only http://lds.org and http://mormon.org are the places to go. And especially Wikipedia, despite not representing the viewpoint of the LDS Church, however provides lots of useful (and less-useful) information. This is the information revolution!

Well, yours truly has been extremely busy lately due to certain things I’m not going to enumerate. Let’s just say, that Read more…

The Devil Made Me Do It Again!

As you’ll probably know, I’m an armchair philosopher. To put it a bit clearer, I read, study and ponder all kinds of things (my favorite scripture is D&C 88:78-80 which tells us what belongs to the doctrine of the Kingdom). And I like to speculate where I don’t have real knowledge; also, I am able to adjust my conclusions based on new information.

All of us, who haven’t been bred with full certainty about this world and its implications for us, have wondered at times why a good, omnipotent God allows so much evil in the World. It seems that quite often those who pay the highest price Read more…

For Common Good From Tribal Society to a Global One

Lately I have wondered what is “common good”. We can now observe societies that are in different states of progress, as a group of scientists lately did. They found out, that in a more modern society people tend to be more impartial toward stranger Read more…

The Church Condemned

In my daily study I happened to run into D&C 84:54-55 (emphasis added):

Who Am I — Who Are We in the Eyes of Others

I know that I might get burned — in a number of ways — by letting this out in the open here, but here goes: My great grandmother was not a “white” person; rather, she was what her peers considered a “person of color” although she hardly really stood out of the crowd. She was of the Roma people — the most widespread European indigenous people AFAIK. Read more…

The People of The Book

Friday,November 7th, 2008 1 comment

I heard years ago this term used for two groups: Jews and Muslims. Jews, of course, have long identified with the Torah, and later with the Hebrew Bible (or Tanakh), that is included in the Christian Bible as the Old Testament. And the Qur’an is the book Muslims consider to be revelation. Read more…
