What does Christmas mean to me?
First, a disclaimer; while I don’t claim to represent the Church or the official standpoint of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (what I usually incorrectly call “LDS Church”), I consider myself a faithful Latter-day Saint, and I am a member in good standing–still my blog posts are my sole responsibility, and nobody else is to be blamed for my mistakes. That gave to me a new idea about Christmas. Read more…
Praise to The Man
So Christmas is on its merry way and media reports are all full of worried merchants agonizing about people not spending enough money. I realize that selling (mostly unneeded) junk is how many people earn their living (starting with the kids who work 12-hour shifts 7 days a week, while still starving, in Asian factories) – but let’s look at why Christmas is celebrated by Christians in the first place.
