They say I’m not Christian? I’m indifferent…

Monday,March 5th, 2012 2 comments

The headline here is revealing. So I’ve been reading yet another set of press articles, where “journalists” interview a Baptist pastor about the “Mormon” faith? (Deep breath.)

Anyhow, there have been about a billion blog posts, where Mormons argue that their church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is a Christian church Read more…

Women in The Priesthood

Thursday,April 14th, 2011 Leave a comment

Now and again I hear someone ask when women will receive the Priesthood, which I spell with a capital P to denote that I mean the Priesthood expounded in the D&C as a whole package, including all the covenants. The Priesthood is incomplete without the covenants.

It is true, that a woman does not receive ordination. On the other hand, even if a man has had hands laid upon his head, he has not received the Priesthood, or fullness of it, unless Read more…

Misconceptions, Testimony etc.

[Edited for some glaring grammatical mistakes, and begging for your understanding regarding the remaining ones.]

I’ve been thinking–and of course reading–about the so-called shaken faith thing. What I’m about to say, is given without documentation, just some personal observation. Look forward to my presentation of some of the “hidden” Mormon history (usually “hidden” in the pages of the Internet-readable Ensign!) . I have a specific point to be made of that. (BTW, don’t expect this to be an easily digestible piece–or a quick read, either. ;) )

One thing to start with: I’m not being “superior” here Read more…

About Orthodoxies

I wanted to digress more into this when writing the science/religion post, so I decided to do a post on it,  a short one.

Because it doesn’t really require that much room to say, that I don’t see that Orthodoxy is such a big deal for Mormons at all. For some, but certainly when I think of the baptismal interview (which you an read about in the Preach My Gospel available at the Church Web site if you’re interested), or the temple recommend interview, the requirement for Orthodoxy is quite low in the LDS tradition. Exercising Faith, Revisited Again

Thursday,October 21st, 2010 Leave a comment

So, it is time to write about it again. I actually read my previous Faith posts — some of which may be difficult to discern, because they don’t come right out and say, “this is about Faith!”

Well, now, this one does declare that.

This is part of my philosophical education, I guess Read more…

Hobosexuality

Here I go sticking my finger in a hornet’s nest. Comments will be moderately moderated. No vulgarities, cursing or ad hominem will be tolerated. I do intend to let opinions show, but this is not going to be a 4chan extension…

Let me say first off that I have not participated in any political campaign for or against same-sex marriage in any legislation. Likely that is because it hasn’t really come up as an issue where I vote.

Why I use the word “hobosexuality” is that, as this is the time of Internet 2.0 Read more…

About Trying To Serve God And Mammon Or the Gospel of Wealth

Friday,October 1st, 2010 Leave a comment

Well, it’s Scripture quiz time. Question: According to Jesus, as recorded in Scriptures, is it possible to serve both God and Mammon? Answer Yes or No.

Answer: According to Matt 6:24 and Luke 16:13, “Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”

Yet, look around you. You’ll find people strongly equating wealth/health/success with righteousness, insinuating that such things automatically follow from righteous lives. But if we read the Sermon on the Mount (part of which is recorded in Matt 6, where the above quote can also be found), it is quite obvious that it is not just that we cannot serve God and mammon, we get several instructions Read more…

Just What Is Moral Courage Part 2

Wednesday,September 29th, 2010 Leave a comment

I don’t know how the first one could have been so poorly edited. My editor must have been napping! ;)

But what has happened, as it often does, is that this subject of moral courage has been much on my mind, and I’ve had several opportunities to see and practise it in practice (according to dictionary, the verb takes the “s” and the noun the “c” [NERD POINTS!]).  And as it often does, it seems my views have widened to look at it more from the basic human needs point-of-view. The need for nourishment and shelter are closely followed by the need of dignity, for example. Read more…

Speaking Up!

Wednesday,September 29th, 2010 Leave a comment

So here we are. After the most physically active summer in my life in a quarter century, I am on my sickbed with a pneumonia — and have lost my voice, too! And exercise is supposed to be good for you!!

So yes, I guess that finally I was forced to “speak up” metaphorically again. Read more…

The Church Condemned

In my daily study I happened to run into D&C 84:54-55 (emphasis added):

And your minds in times past have been darkened because of unbelief Read more…
